A little bit more about Hilary...

Ever since I graduated with my Bachelor of Science from Monroe College and advanced onto my MBA in Finance at Strayer University, I have been recognized for my ability to translate sophisticated financial concepts into understandable guidance, helping clients navigate major life transitions with confidence.

At Vanguard and Modera Wealth Management, I built successful advisory practices through referral generation and exceptional client service, managing relationships for high-net-worth individuals and families. I earned and maintained my Series 7 and CFP® certifications while developing experience in general tax-efficient wealth strategies, estate planning coordination, and retirement income optimization.

I owe everything I know about resilience and money to my mother. After my father passed when I was three, she raised three children alone in a foreign country, having immigrated from Trinidad chasing the American dream. She was the oldest of eleven children—nine girls—and knew how to stretch every dollar. Despite earning just one income, she managed to become a homeowner, though it meant constant sacrifices. Watching her make daily choices between necessities taught me that building wealth isn't about perfection—it's about persistence, priorities, and understanding the rules of money that no one explicitly teaches you.

Her determination to build equity in a home while keeping us fed and educated showed me what's possible when financial literacy meets unwavering resolve. I also saw the toll of every financial decision being critical and became obsessed with understanding what others seemed to know intuitively about money—the unwritten rules that separate financial struggle from security.

That curiosity evolved into my career when I realized I could help decode these "secrets" for families who, like mine, had the work ethic and values but lacked the generational knowledge about building wealth. Every client I help achieve financial security honors my mother's sacrifices.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I'm an outdoor enthusiast who finds balance through hiking Charlotte's greenways and tending my small herb garden. My two cats serve as my home office supervisors, ensuring I take regular breaks from the screens.

What's something most people don't know about you?

I'm slowly teaching myself to identify birds by their songs—currently I can recognize about a dozen species that visit my backyard. It's surprisingly meditative and connects me to my mother's Caribbean roots where paying attention to nature was part of daily life

What was your very first job?

My first money came from shoveling snow for neighbors—learning early that hard work creates opportunity. My first official job was as a grocery store cashier at 16, where I watched families make tough choices at checkout, reinforcing my desire to understand how some people seemed to navigate money with ease while others, like us, calculated every penny.
